All cooped up

If you have been following the news last weekend, you'd have noticed that there are two articles which were talking about the Singapore Zoo having a new exhibit.

The new display was both an April Fool's prank and an attempt to highlight man's role in conservation, said the zoo.

Also party to the joke was The Straits Times, which featured an article on the new Simia mina exhibit yesterday, describing it as the world's first display of the highly intelligent primates.

There were various clues that the story was a hoax. The term Simia mina means bare or smooth ape in Latin. The zoo spokesman's name was Foo Si Yue (April in Mandarin) and the fictitious animal activist group planning to protest against the exhibit was named Free Orangutans Only Legion (Singapore), whose acronym would, of course, be Fools.

This article was on April 2, while the reporting about the exhibit actually was published on April 1. Just to fool readers yea? And I was really fooled but of course didn't go down to the zoo just to check things out.

And along with the April 2 article came this photo that showed two homosapiens in the really small exhibit, said to be around the size of an HDB flat bedroom. Ah. Fooled.

This is the exhibit

So poor thing right this lion...it belongs to a zoo in Melbourne
