Post-exams frenzy

To begin with, it wasn't that much of a frenzy, I just had a lot of things to do everyday that I can't seem to have time to sit down and enjoy something. Haha. And someone please please please offer me a job! I seriously need a well-paying one. Costs for the Italy trip are mounting.

Last day of exams, 03052007, Thursday
When exams ended, all I wanted to do was to nua somewhere. And so I nua-ed in E402 and watched the Devil Wears Prada, like I previously blogged. First movie of the summer holidays.

After that I went out to VivoCity for a nice shopping trip, but turned out there wasn't anything that was worth buying! So sad la, I was hoping for new clothes. I'm tired of my wardrobe and I keep wearing the same thing over and over. They don't last more than a day in the cupboard after washing before I take them out to wear again. I need new clothes! And I'm afraid I'll run out of stuff to wear when I go overseas. I didn't try anything at Zara/Topshop/Forever 21/...but I tried some bottom at Pull And Bear.....I just couldn't fit into it. =C

Left boring-and-overrated VivoCity to Plaza Singapura. Tried a top and a dress at Dorothy Perkins and hey I like both, but the dress was a bright pink and it costs nearly $70. Something I couldn't afford, so I had to let it go. The top costs as much and it just isn't worth buying them. So I didn't buy any clothes for the whole of the day.

Walked around Spotlight and bought stuff to do some handicraft heh heh. Will post pictures of my lousy work soon. Muahahaha. I think I actually spent the most time at Spotlight compared to all the other shops I went to.

I went up to Manhattan Fish Market and left my contacts there to 'reserve' a seat for 13 people. Had dinner with a group of NUSWS people =) I had some Fried platter I shared with Hui Shan and Daniel over there, and after a while it was just gorging the food. Haha. Was damn full but a lot to finish. Thank goodness for the prawns. And juicy fried mushrooms. The mushrooms were damn good la, I liked them. I actually hated mushrooms and I couldn't figure out what the thing coated with batter was so I just ate it. Turned out to be huge mushrooms (not shitake, thankfully) and they were extreeeeeeeeeemely juicy. They're about the same price as Fish & Co., but its signature Fish and Chips was cheaper. $9.90++. I think the next time my MJCSB clique gonna celebrate a birthday, we better change to Manhattan Fish Market then. Whahaha. We can't survive on Fish & Co. for almost every birthday =D

The funny thing about this photo is that I was still chewing on my food when the waiter helped us snap this shot. Whahaha. He didn't count before he pressed the shutter, so I was busy chewing away if not it'd be rather uncomfortable smiling. In the end it seemed like I was the only one who needed to chew.

After which I went home.

04052007, Friday
Went back to Sheares from home, for whatever reason. Haha. Went to job agencies before that. Haven't received any calls till today, so I'm quite worried I won't be able to get a job soon. =C How come I always have no luck with this kinda things.

Anyway, when I reached hall on Friday I went to take my last dinner in hall, and then watched Full House from 7 pm plus to..around 5am? Whahahha. I haven't finished it though. No time le.

Then talked a bit with Amy, continued watching FH, then went to the lounge to busybody the others who were drinking there and drank something like the Blue Lagoon. But it was extremely sweeeeeeet. And made my mouth alllll blue. Pui. Haha.

So far I think FH isn't a very good show, it's funny but I feel it doesn't have enough depth to the content.

Slept at around 8 am plus of Saturday...

05052007, Saturday
...and I woke up at 12 pm plus to meet my extension trip group for itinerary discussion. I sacrificed going to busybody at MJC for the band exchange, in the end Xin Hui went for that. Bo jio. =C

I felt quite lousy at the meeting partly because I wasn't fully awake yet, but also that I felt pretty useless. I don't really have much ideas like Hwee Lee did and I am rather fine with anything. So I kept quiet (yea, right) throughout the meeting and when I spoke it was mainly lame stuff that I wanted to entertain them. There was Hwee Lee and Ian, Daniel and Cedric and me. Xin Hui pang seh-ed! Whahaha.

We decided on the route Milan -> Venice -> Munich -> Berlin -> Stockholm where we will be taking the plane with the rest of the NUSWS people who extended too. Ian booked the plane tickets already!!! Heehee, one part of our trip confirmed C= But it's quite expensive la. Though still not very expensive, but I found it expensive. Whahaha. I badly need a job!!!

I'm just a bit disappointed that Lady Luck wasn't really on our side because going all the way to Stockholm for the flight is really quite a bother. I can't go to Rome, FLORENCE (whaha), and Paris as suggested before that. =C Because the return flight was initially at Rome, but I think there weren't enough space...sigh. Not as excited as going to Germany but hey, better than nothing =D Quite excited now that things are almost, though not nearly, complete.

Heh. =P

And the supposed-to-go-for MJ alumni pract..I gave it up. Mainly because I wasn't going back home, so going to Pasir Ris then go back to hall is very troublesome. Excuses, but I really didn't wanna go through all that trouble. Can't go home because my brother's friend was staying over and she had to use my room. I am quite a gao zei person, and I just didn't wanna share my room with her so I gave her the entire room for two nights. Whaha.

So I trotted (macam babi) to City Hall with Daniel to meet the rest for the Swensen's trip. So sinful. Go there for ice-cream, fattening food etc and the opportunity cost is the band practice. SIGHHH. In the end, the turn out of my MJCSB (not NUSWS, Daniel =P) section for the practice was zero. =( Hong Wei (though not my section but his presence makes a difference to Felix Yap's) had field camp, Kai Yan only booked out at night and so Felix didn't go.

I shared Chicken Baked Rice (damn nice laaa) and this new seafood pizza with Hui Shan. The pizza was not bad, it had mangoes but no raisins like the picture depicted, but I didn't do anything about it because the crew that day was quite nice. Haha. But the pizza was quite bad in that the crust was horribly done and the toppings were not evenly and nicely spread out. The verdict: Get the pizza if you have extra cash to spare. Beware of the biscuit-like crust. Hahha. I thought not much of the CBR when I frequent Swensen's so I'll always try other stuff on the menu. But the CBR is really quite nice la, but not nice enough for me to want to complete the whole serving.

When I decided that I'd go Swensen's, I really wanted to at least put some mint and rum-and-raisin ice-cream into my mouth. Whahaha, what a way to illustrate. Anyway, they didn't have anymore rum-and-raisin and only this Yummy Raisin flavour. I was quite irritated because why would I want a raisin-filled ice-cream with no alcohol? T_T We ordered Apple Crumble (actually wasn't as impressive as I thought) and Giant Earthquake. The AC was quite amazing, because the waiter came with a hot plate of just the crumble and the vanilla ice-cream on top. And then he threw apple chunks around the crumble and then when he poured the...uh, butterscotch (?) over the mixture, it sizzled on the pan and the rest was like 'wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo' and that attracted a lot of attention -_- so paiseh la. Hahaha. And the Earthquake. A repeat of our previous amazement when the waitress poured water into the pepper bottle filled with dry ice and smoke came out. Whahhaa.

Look! We're rich! Edna, Yokes Daniel is smelling the yoghurt menu I was staring intently at the pizzas. Haha Arlin Chicken Baked Rice!!! Yong Kiat, the missing boy with the brown shirt and shorts. Whahaha Woaaahhhhh Pizzalala Yokes, Edna, Dan, Arlin, Yong Kiat, me, Hui Shan and the smoking Earthquake

In the end, there was an alcohol taste in the Yummy Raisin!!!! Whahaha. And I enjoyed the trip to Swensen's because of that. Whahahahhahahaha. Gian peng Derek didn't go!!! Hahahaa. He overslept. Meeting time was 6 in the evening. He came after Swensen's though. So we treated him to the roadside $1 ice-cream.

Coincidentally while we were feasting at Suntec's Swensen's, people from the NUSWS trumpet section appeared hahaa. So it seems that 6 of the trumpeters were using their Swensen's vouchers on that day too. They topped the ticket sales, so they got $140 worth of vouchers while the tuba section at third, we got $90. Conclusion: Don't think you can eat a lot when you have a lot of vouchers. The trumpets had an outstanding of about $60 (but some rich guy belanja-ed) and we had only $42 outstanding. I only paid $6, 爽呆了. =D

After that we walked around and ended up at Esplanade. For some reason, we sat at the Foyer for quite some time. I really felt very slacked whahhaa. Looooooong time that I could sit somewhere and just chit-chat. Oh and Derek, please stop wearing your pair of PVC slippers everywhere. It belongs to solely movement in hall.

Sometimes I hope I really am not 'calculative' in a sense and just tolerate people who always 撒娇. But I seriously can't tahan girls who 撒娇 24/7 even if they're born that way. I'll just roll my eyes at them. Whhahaa. I don't understand why they've got to 撒娇 to please people and so what, who do you think you are to get everything your way? Sickening! Sigh. I hate to be one of those hypocrites. I can't tahan! OK la, I admit I do 撒娇 too but I'm sure my condition is not bad because I get ignored easily. Whahhahaa.

P.S. MJCSB clinched a Gold medal for their debut SYF two years ago on this day! =D
"Band no. 4, Meridian Junior College, Gold." "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

06052007, Sunday
Blogged about today, Ann Gee's show.

07052007, Monday
I went back to school from home for the Star Dust singing competition. Went for it because Juli, one of my kaki-s in hall, joined the competition with her friend. And they got third place!! The rankings of the group category was good. However for the solo category, I still don't think the guy should get! Liza was good, the Joel guy and the last guy was good too. Liza should get second and Sonia should get third, and one of the guys should get the top position. Dwayne is funky and jumpy and lively and a breath of fresh air I know, but he shouldn't get top place. And Star Dust '06 winner, Surath, is a damn good singer can? Whahaha, if a guy sings to me with that kind of voice, I'd just die there. Wahahha.

It was quite the first time I was doing some fan-business, like waving light sticks and shouting 'JUUUULIIIIIIIIIII' all that. And waving poster boards bearing her name. Whahaha. The judge called her Kelly then Judy then finally Juli -_- I don't know where the Kelly name came from. Juli's parents were damn cute la. Her mum was like '第一次作这种东西咧。' Whahaha and she was like quite anxious and excited and happy. They must be proud parents man, their kids are good-looking and talented people.

Juli and her friend Kevin sang....I can't remember the title. Hahaha. Some Chinese song by 刘耕宏 and 许慧欣 if I got the spelling right. And they won $300 on top of the trophy lo. Whahaha. And they were good. In fact I couldn't concentrate much because I was busy taking photos and holding the placard and light stick. Don't ask me how I managed that, I was too pre-occupied I cannot remember.

P.S. Derek I caught you in your PVC slippers at Star Dust.

Ah, the end of alllll dated postings.

Today, 08052007, Tuesday
Going for chalet at Aloha.

And happy birthday Annie How Yi Xin. May you be pretty one day. Whahaha.

Happy birthday Felix Yap. May you be thin one day.

09052007, Wednesday
Supposed to go for seniors' gathering at 3 p.m., but I decided not to and instead to go for MJCSB's sound check at SCH. I wanna go for both the gathering and sound check, but then I'd rather go for the sound check la. Too detached from the main band that I cannot stand it anymore. What business of theirs is mine, I don't know. Haha. This decision is much easier to make than the alumni pract and Swensen's one. I decided against going for the gathering the moment I know about the sound check =P

10052007, Thursday
Nothing's confirmed on this day, supposed to meet the extension trip group to confirm our itinerary and accomodation. I dunno where I can find the time to really confirm my part though.

11052007, Friday
JCs SYF. Will wake up early to go to SCH and get tickets to enter the hall and watch the entire thing. I pray I won't be going to the toilet because it may risk my chances of going back inside.

So many things, how to find job? Argh! Must really start by next Monday! T_T I want and need a jobbb!!!!

P.S. Yokes! Can I get photos from you?
P.P.S. I know that this is an uber long post. I am long-winded.
P.P.P.S. There aren't news about Alan Johnston anymore. Hmmm.

AG's show

Ann Gee had (has, it's not over at this time) an art show at Red Dot Design Museum, part of the Market for Artists And Designers (MAAD) show. It was quite an eye-opener for me since I haven't been to such an art show before. I didn't manage to take a picture of her exhibit. Other than exhibits local artists were selling their own work and seriously, most are worth buying.

Finding my way there was a bit of a challenge as I haven't been there before. Thank goodness the place which is beside Tanjong Pagar MRT Station wasn't hard to find. One entirely red building, how will you miss it?

Along the way while looking at the stuff there I got name cards from the sellers and artists. They're 1000000000000000000 times much better than th
e bazaars we have at NUS. They're really quality stuff and I enjoyed my time walking around there, compared to looking at almost the same products in the faculty bazaars. Woots. I shall go there again next time.

I bought this package from AG's exhibit. Some package of a magazine of her work, postcards and two stickers. Here you see her stuff.

I'll want to go there again leh, especially if I have some cash to spare. Wanted to buy one of Moof's tees that I think is quite cute, but then I didn't have enough money with me and can't really afford to buy too many things in there. I wanted to buy this pair of damn funny looking earrings from Ann Gee's friend, but I decided not to since I couldn't really afford le. $6 for the earrings, but man they're really cute.

Here are some of the stuff I got from MAAD. Ann Gee's sealed package, a magazine of the artists' stuff, and some name cards.

Do support Ann Gee! Her blog and her website.

Then how?

Tomorrow's Saturday already. And I haven't made up my mind if I were to go for practice or Swensen's.

I told them I won't be going practice. And I think I made clear that I cannot make it to Swensen's.

Then where am I going? Argh. 烦恼.

And there's a band exchange tomorrow afternoon. Wanna go...but cannot make it. Sigh. Everything just have to go against my way and whenever I'm free, I have nothing to do. And things clash.

The thing I'm (extremely, actually) pissed about is that the Swensen's vouchers are due next year. 2008. And it just has to take place tomorrow of the entire year.

Then how? How? How? How?

It's a matter of responsibility if I choose to go for practice, you see. It's not that I reaaaallllyyy wanna go, I have to travel back to Pasir Ris from hall if I were to go for practice. Sigh.

I am bloody pissed. >=(

I hope my section and Ju Ling won't be pissed if I don't turn up.

And I wonder why I am bothering to choose between the two. Might as well not go for both and I'll be a sad person.

Grr.

World's Fastest Walker

Now give yourself a pat on the back and say "I'm the World's Fastest Walker!"

Some researchers are so free, they went to time the time taken for city prowlers to walk 60 feet, that's about 18.3 metres. And apparently Singaporeans walk the fastest.
We took 10.55 seconds for that. If you hold a pink identification card, say hello.

It is reported that Singaporeans walk 30% faster than we did in the 1990s. So after calculations, we used to take 13.7 seconds to do that. Hey, that's quite a large difference. Look at this:

1) Singapore (Singapore): 10.55

2) Copenhagen (Denmark): 10.82

3) Madrid (Spain): 10.89

4) Guangzhou (China): 10.94

5) Dublin (Ireland): 11.03

6) Curitiba (Brazil): 11.13

7) Berlin (Germany): 11.16

8) New York (United States of America): 12.00

9) Utrecht (Netherlands): 12.04

10) Vienna (Austria): 12.06

11) Warsaw (Poland): 12.07

12) London (United Kingdom): 12.17

13) Zagreb (Croatia): 12.20

14) Prague (Czech Republic): 12.35

15) Wellington (New Zealand): 12.62

16) Paris (France): 12.65

17) Stockholm (Sweden): 12.75

18) Ljubljana (Slovenia): 12.76

19) Tokyo (Japan): 12.83

20) Ottawa (Canada): 13.72

21) Harare (Zimbabwe): 13.92

22) Sofia (Bulgaria): 13.96

23) Taipei (Taiwan): 14.00

24) Cairo (Egypt): 14.18

25) Sana'a (Yemen): 14.29

26) Bucharest (Romania): 14.36

27) Dubai (United Arab Emirates): 14.64

28) Damascus (Syria): 14.94

29) Amman (Jordan): 15.95

30) Bern (Switzerland): 17.37

31) Manama (Bahrain): 17.69

32) Blantyre (Malawi): 31.60

My oh my, 31.60s to walk 18 metres? Do they crawl?? No offence, but taking more than half a minute to walk 18 metres is seriously looooooooooooooooong. I bet the people there are very relaxed and...maybe, happy. Unlike us. Muaha.

Ah.

I just blogged slightly less than 3 hours ago. And I just finished watching a movie. Woots.

The Devil Wears Prada. A good show, but guys can go without watching because it may be too dazzling for them. Whaha. No la, girls will appreciate all these branded stuff more.

However, it is not a superficial show. It's quite engaging, and there are more things in life that you'll think if you have been appreciating or not. Yea, go watch people. Muaha. It's really not a superficial story.

Guess What?

Exams over liao.

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

Nice!

I like this!! Haha. Must listen. It's Joe Hisaishi and a Japanese Orchestra performing a medley from Laputa. And the video and sound don't coincide -_-

Going to be over soon

main
{
if ( exams == over )
printf( "Play-time!" );
else
study;
}

How?

Band practice or Swensen's?

Darn irritated with deciding.

T_T

进退两难。

Long time never play tuba already, and I haven't gone for MJ alumni for a loooooong time and this weekend it'll be inconvenient for me to go since I won't be going home due to some circumstances.

I wanna go Swensen's also because I long time never gather with my NUSWS section (have I actually had an outing with them before?) and I wanna eat ice-cream. Hope I go there and get to eat my rum-and-raisin+mint ice-cream. But I'm coughing and having a slight running(runny?) nose and I shouldn't eat ice-cream. Sighhhhhhh. 烦死了。

It's pretty irritating laaaa. Which one should I go? ... ...I feel like going for MJ alumni lehhh. Argh, think about it after tomorrow.

Tubby the Tuba

I forgot how I knew about this children's tale, but I found a version of it on youtube.

Tubby the Tuba. It's quite a cute show la. Go watch it since most of you finished your exams already >=P

Cravings

I feel like eating sushi. And piping hot cheesy stuff. Like pizzas and baked pasta.

Sighhhhhh. When will be the day....

Thursday. Yea.

Two more days to end all this agony.

Hurry up hurry up! 快点来!

They're selling my meat

And they're selling it for only $0.95 per 100 grams. Get it at Shop N Save.

Why can't they check their typos before printing them? -_-

Read more about this here.

Ada renovation di merata-rata tempat!

There's renovation everywhere!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Trotted back to hall because I couldn't tolerate my noisy home anymore. The construction was soooo loud and disturbing, you can feel its vibration when you put your hand on the wall. Sigh. Supposed to accompany mum at home tomorrow for Labour Day, but seems like impossible liao.

I thought about the construction next to hall before I came and I guessed it wouldn't be as loud as the noise at home, but when I came here, the fan started twitching again and the construction was quite noisy =(

I think I need to go out to study tomorrow, if not I can't keep up and I only get pissed and distracted.

Tata.

救救我吧!Tolong!!!

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BLOODY CONSTRUCTION!!!! THERE'S CONSTRUCTION EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T

HELPPPPPPPPPPPP!!

I NEED SOMEWHERE PEACEFUL!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

吵死人了!

T_T

I can neither sleep or work. And this is driving me crazy.

I found something to do

Not only did I find something to do (other than to mug) at this hour, I think that I did it for a good cause. And it is the best way that someone as small and powerless as I am can do.

I think some of you heard of a BBC reporter being abducted in Gaza in March. I remember catching some news about that, but I didn't follow up. I just found out from some local reporter's blog about him. He is still not released! And everyone is very angry at whoever kidnapped him!

I am quite worried for the reporter, in a way. 'Cos you'll never know what those kidnappers (aka terrorists) can do. They're really terrible. For a moment it was reported that he was killed, but after that the Palestinian government said that he is safe and healthy. Well I hope so.

Alan Johnston banner

Please put this on your blog/website/whatsoever to show your support. I don't know what good this can make to facilitate his release, but I think this is a small gesture that goes a long way.

You can get the code and read more about this campaign from the editors.

And read more.

Yikes

Oh dear oh dear.

I can't sleep. Muahaha. Kind of weird since I fall into dreamland very easily for the past few nights. I did a calculation, I slept for an aggregate of more than 24 hours from Friday night to Sunday morning. Which is a lot. Maybe I'm not as sick as the past two days and I slept a tad too much. So I'm pretty energetic now though I tried to sleep earlier on. To no avail.

La la laaa.

And I'm finding something to do. Now.

Labour Day Holiday Resolution

As I'll be staying home this LD holiday, I wanna watch some TV at home.

And my sole show resolution on Tuesday is to watch The Muppets' Wizard of Oz. Muahahaha.

Looking forward to the story-telling plus singing!

1030hrs on Labour Day, hope I wake up in time!

Everything is tasteless

Either that or things taste really bad.

I'm down with fever since Friday night.

Had a headache since before Friday's paper, and I went home after dinner. The amazing thing was I had the energy to go to Compasspoint Library to borrow a book before going home.

Plopped on the bed and my temperature soared. Felt soooooooooooooooooo dead. X|

Yesterday was a really short day. My mum pestered me to wake up to bring me to the doctor's and my body temperature was 39.6 deg C. A really high fever. And my dear father even got me to move the LD player downstairs to his cab so he can bring the TV and the player to the repairman. -_- LD. So long ago.

After which I went to bathe and sleep till dinner time. Ate, and slept again. It's those extreme 全身无力 feeling. Like I had to 'crawl' out of the bathroom, drag myself to sit on the chair at the dining table, and I didn't do work at all. Gotta start on some work already, if not I won't have enough time to study.

The medicine was darn expensive. $80! I was prescribed cough syrup, cough and running nose tablets, Tamiflu (which is the expensive one), anti-biotics, fever tablets, and some other tablets. In all I consumed 6 tablets at a go this morning, on top of that, the syrup. -_- I felt like I was some old woman and when I woke up early this morning, my back was aching like mad. It's still aching now.

T_T

And everything taste really bad I don't have the appetite to eat. =C

Sian. If only I'll fall sick after the exams. Sigh.

Friday, April 27, 2007

Sigh.

I...I...I want...

..short hair.

Sigh.

One more to go

Next paper is on Thursday, my Malay paper.

No mood to study for that today.

Just came back from an examination. Calculus.

Sigh. I'm so dead.

As usual. At first I thought things took a turn for the better. Apparently it didn't

ARGH. I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't know how to improve myself, have those sense of motivation for my studies, be a motivated person all the time, so that I can do what I need to do properly.

But these aren't what I want to do. I just don't know what I can do.

I'm turning 20, and it feels like I've been aimless for the past twenty donkey years of my life.

School isn't as manageable anymore.

I need to dream for something.

A new home...not?

European astronomers have found a new planet that is about the size of the Earth and temperature about 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, where liquid can exist in liquid form and they decided that the planet has potential for sustaining life.

But seriously, if there comes a day when you can choose to move to that planet, will you want to leave the Earth? It's far worse than moving from Singapore to say, the US.

I'm not sure if I'll move there though. I doubt so.

Wee-hour doodling

Hur. Did this when I couldn't continue mugging anymore. Damn, gotta pia later in the day if not I may not be able to watch my Idol Gives Back.

Blow up the following pictures if you need to, and please laugh. Or at least, giggle.

'yang hitam' means 'which is black'
End.

Idol Gives Back

I am contemplating if I should spend 2.5 hrs on TV on Thursday night. It is a hard decision because I have a paper on Friday afternoon.

But it is quite hard to give up the show on Thursday. I don't like recording shows because it'll disrupt the sound and it's a singing programme.

It's Idol Gives Back by the American Idol. A charity show combined with the results show. Then the money generated from the voting calls the previous night - a part of it will be donated to the needy from the sponsors. It'll be a 'star-studded' event with the likes of Gwen Stefani, Michael Buble, et al and most importantly. JOSH GROBAN!!!!

I've never seen JG on TV before!!!! I really wanna watch and not record if not I cannot enjoy the essence of his voice! Whahaha. But then..I really wanna see him perform!

It's a performance that I really don't wanna miss! T_T Josh Groban lehhhh........

Idol Gives Back will be shown on Channel 5, 2100-2130, followed by the news and the second part will continue at 2200 after the news till 2330. If I didn't get the timings wrong. And I wanna watch the news as well. So it'll be quite a night gone already....How how how. I don't know if I'll be well-prepared enough to be able to watch the show on that night.

I love JG!

Muahaha.

Va. Tech VS Iraq

The massacre at Virginia Tech caused the whole world to be in mourning. 32 victims died. And the powerful (dis?)United States of America harped an influence that caught worldwide media attention, and the entire world sympathised. In addition, PM LHL wrote a letter of condolence to President Bush.

The massacre at Iraq which happens everyday seemed like just another day for us. We made no big deal about it. Does this mean that the Iraqis (and American/British/et al troops) who died because of war - be it outsiders or suicide bombers who killed them - do not deserve world attention? Or has it become a rampant condition that nobody made a big deal of? Why aren't there outsiders grieving for the Iraqis?

What is the difference between these two groups of people? Aren't they the same? Didn't the Guy-Up-There made us to be of one people? I thought He is great. Why didn't the world mourn for those whose lives ended in Iraq? Why does Bush continue killing others? Has he really thought about how it feels like to lose someone close to you? He is just like another Cho Seung-hui in Iraq. Did he mourn for the victims in Iraq? Did LHL write a letter of condolence to the current president of Iraq? Do Americans feel ashamed like how South Koreans do? Young as well as respected people were killed at Va. Tech. People of all ages were killed in Iraq. Including kids, the elderly, etc.

Argh. The ironies of this world. -_-

Meltz

I asked my dad to buy this new item in the menu at KFC, called Meltz. Looked damn nice in the taco-like wrap and all the cheese oozing out. So since my mum cooked only porridge for dinner, it'd be good for some addition =P

Like so nice right? Full of stuff inside, and woots cheeeeeeeese.

Happily went home for the Meltz waiting for me on the dinner table.

And at dinner we opened up the box and....

So flat.

Daniel Kang, your favourite KFC can be quite a liar isn't it. The difference between the advertisements and the real thing.

Errors in expression

I'm on a blogging spree.

Anyway, I cannot really express myself well in words, because for my English essays, my teacher will always underline some phrases and write 'exp' there. What I thought made sense apparently didn't make sense to the reader -_-

I thought I was really bad, till I saw this.

Muahahahaa.

Thank Queue.

Thank you?

Thank Q please Q.

I saw this at Old Chang Kee at YIH.

Exams so far

Last semester's final examinations was a nightmare for me. Times were hard to tide through, I don't know why. Things that I actually knew how to do. However I freaked out during the exam and it was only when we were dismissed that friends tell me you just do this by the so-and-so way. Felt quite horrible, and damn afraid that I'd fail the modules, especially MA1100. An extreme down period then.

This time round, things took a turn for the better. Could be the planning of modules that helped. Though I still couldn't do a chunk of questions in the MA1101R paper today, it was much better than last sem when I couldn't do almost all -_- Yea. So felt quite good la. Ya..hopefully the following exams will be better.

Impressed!

My friend AG just graduated from Temasek Polytechnic, some design course I'm not sure which. =P

Anyway, she just did a project which is to design for ACRES' fund-raising gala dinner. Here's the link, you all can take a look.

It's a very pretty work of art, I'm so impressed. I bought some postcards she drew some time ago also.

Help...

...sheet (shit).

Writing a helpsheet - when you're one of those cannot-make-it people - can leave you as a cripple.

My right arm is very strained.

Argh.

Getting kan chiong already. Say hello to sleepless nights. I took about an hour plus to fall asleep last night. I can't imagine how much longer I'll take tonight, but I'll still try to sleep.

I don't think my preparation is adequate enough, one last stage to go. About 12 hours to the MA1101R paper, 加油咯。

I'm feeling rather 自闭 these days. Not a good sign, because I'm starting to show signs of anti-socialism. And I'm quite weird nowadays. Oh dear oh dear. I'm a psycho -_-

I can go home tomorrow already! Yeay. I miss my parents (though I met my dad twice this week).

Back to preparations.

Two things to cheer about today

I told myself not to blog today, but there're still things I wanna say.

Firstly, Sanjaya Malakar is out of American Idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAY!!!!! Three cheers~~~ Yea. I think he should've been out of the competition since the Top 24. I still don't understand why there are people who like him. And people voted for him because of his hardship and pitiful stories. Like sympathy votes. And he cannot sing as well as the many contestants eliminated before him. I wonder why people don't sympathise with the other talented contestants as much as him. Fweee.

Secondly, this is what I did to my wallpaper. Desktop Earth.

Do blow up the picture and take closer looks at where the arrows are pointing to.

Wheeeeee. Italy trip is nearing.

The fan. Again.

I went to the office to report the damage of my fan yesterday. In the form I was required to fill in my name, room number and mobile number. I also needed to indicate if I allowed the workers to come in when I wasn't around. So of course, I circled no.

I went out for breakfast with my dad today and when I got back at noon, I saw the operations manager locking up my room, accompanied with the workers. So I asked, is the fan fixed already? And he said ya, OK already.

Shit you la. What's the point of the form then? You asked if I allowed you to go in and I circled no in bold. I remembered circling it many times because the pen ink wasn't flowing properly. And what's the point of me leaving my mobile number with you when you don't even call and ask for my permission to enter my room? It's a girl's room, by the way. No manners at all. And there was dust all over the place, my bed wasn't even 'protected' from the dust, and you people happily threw the screws and wires into my rubbish bin. Very self-service eh? Pui.

And this is not the first time you entered my room without permission.

Virginia Tech massacre

I'm sure many of you have heard about the shootings that occured in Virginia Tech, a university in Virginia, a few days ago which left 33 dead, including the killer himself.

He has been identified as Cho Seung-hui, a South Korean permanent resident in America. His photo in the press looked very normal, just like any other average kid but it is hard for me to imagine him wielding a gun and shooting endlessly. As an English major he wrote plays for his creative writing class and his plays contain extremely gory and violent content. Scary huh. When someone in your class submits an essay which has got all these stuff.

There were two rounds of shootings, one at a dormitory and another at a classroom building. They took place within two hours of each other, however, the university administration did not evacuate students out of the school, if not 30 people, including two professors, would still be alive. I don't know, but they should've taken as far as they could to evacuate students from the school buildings but they didn't. They had two hours. Two whopping hours. I think many lives could be saved at least if information was disseminated immediately. And the president of the university still received a 30-second standing ovation during their candlelight vigil. Which I'm not sure if he deserved it.

There are speculations that 23 year-old Cho suspected an 18 year-old girl that he was romantically involved with was seeing another man. So he killed both of them in a dormitory.

At the end of the massacre Cho commited suicide by shooting himself in the face that left it badly disfigured. He was really disturbed.

I felt quite sad for those who were innocent. The 76 year-old professor who protected his students by blocking the doorway from the gunman while the students jump out of the window. I cannot imagine how many shots the professor took, facing Cho by himself. He deserved the standing ovation much more than the president of Virginia Tech. And all the young people whose lives ended, they don't even know why they were killed. And their parents who will never see their kids coming home ever again.

I am quite thankful that I'm residing in Singapore, where the possession of weapons is against the law. You can't even get a gun legally here. So even if I live in school, I still feel quite safe (other than the fan). This may turn me off on going for exchange programmes, but I'm targeting to go Australia, so things may just go on. We'll see, going on exchange takes into account my scores as well.

Life goes on, life goes on.

Dangling by the wires

As you all know, there's something wrong with the fan in my room in hall. It's been twitching especially loud and at a higher frequency these days, I had a hard time sleeping last night T_T Bloody irritated. I went to the office to report (finally =P) but the uncle was on leave. And the last time I reported about my fan, I had to wait more than a week before someone came to fix it! So means I may have to wait till next week. Sigh.

The fan is dangling by the wires up there whereas my life and patience are dangling by the strings. Pissed off! Argh it's twitching again.

ARGH

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I'm seriously not the sort who can study full-time.

I MISS BAND DAYS!!!! T_T

This was me in 2003. When I hadn't got hold of a digital camera yet and this was taken by the analogue camera. Posing are: Erina, Besson 994, black top and pants and my favourite-but-stolen Bata shoes! MUahahaa.

*clears throat*

ARGHH. I got the itch to go play somewhere. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. I think this could be a medical condition. =\

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I wanna play the tuba! BABY! COME TO ME!

Whahaha. I sound like some...weirdo.

I wanna go play somewhere...play some nice pieces...aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Ahhh.

Ouch

Can you see a slit on my thumb? It has been giving me extreme pains and I really hope it'll heal soon. T_T There are a lot of things that are harder for me to do without my right thumb. I can feel the discomfort when I write. Sigh.

Semester 2 06/07

I'm done with Freshman Seminar, the last presentation was last Monday. Had a nice presentation (whahhaa) because *ahem* I have a sense of humour. WHAHAHAHA. And I did the ppt in a quirky way. Everyone else did too, they were telling the audience their journey in making the icosahedron models and some were really hilarious. Some were really smart okay. I just felt sad that, why do we have to warm up to each other only at the last lesson. But it was great. It really was. I can see that the prof was particularly amused at my slides -_- because he was laughing loudly. =P

Uh, I think you can check out the Chemistry Admin Office area. I think they displayed our icosahedron models there so you can look at it. Gotta collect before the start of the next semester. The pink and red ones made out of straws are mine =D

~~~~~
I'm done with Science of Music too. HA! Great. I hope my MIDI composition will sound good to the prof. All the wind and string instrument patches on MIDI sounded damn terrible on my laptop. So I couldn't make up my mind with what to use so I finalised with the tuba. Muahaha. Not biasness, really. I think other instruments sounded incompatible with the piano accompaniment. I did the piano part first, then I did my melody and percussion. Yea. Dunno where I got the melody from though.
And hope I'll get at least 24/25 for the end-of-term test! I was surprised that I wasn't distracted by the thoughts of Hai Sing's SYF because they were on the same day. Haha.
Oh back to my point. I played my MIDI on my brother's laptop and it sounded gorgeous! Seriously! (I don't mean my composition is good, I meant the instrumentation -_-) So I'm hoping that the prof's speakers are as good as my brother's, or even better. Heh. Now I need to think of something to compensate the lousy laptop of mine. I need the good quality speakers!
Ah, maybe I need a new laptop. *sniggers*
WAIT LONG LONG LAAAA. ITALY TRIP ALREADY BLEW A HOLE IN YOUR POCKET!
My mum said she'll pay the trip costs for me, but since I paid first.....I don't think I'll go to her and ask for money. =\
Exams in 5 days. Please give me luck and motivation!
Hai Sing played well
I was waiting for the Brother and the Mother when I saw Mr & Mrs Chua and their daughter at Tampines Mart.
I said hello and Mrs Chua told me that she saw a current student of hers and Mrs Chua said hi. Then the student was so shocked he/she 'ran' away. Mrs Chua was like, 'I also shop at normal shopping malls what.' Whahahaha.
So I chatted with Mrs Chua a little bit, and asked how did Hai Sing play that day. She said something like they played very well.
Woots.
That's good. Damn good.
Throughout all these postings it's very hard for me to tell you how I feel exactly. I don't know how to put it in words, I can't even draw an expression out for you to see. I'm feeling better about things compared to the past few days. However...I don't know how to explain. =P
The fan
Come one day when the fan in my room comes off, and it spins and harm me in some way or the other, and if I don't wake up, you people got to help me sue the management of the hall.
I'm saying this because the fan is murmuring and I can see a gap between the ceiling and the fan.
It has been fixed before, seems like it likes to dangle by its wires.
Help.
A change in colour
Hai Sing's SYF today was fine, as so I heard. Glitches here and there, but Daniel seemed to say that the tubas did well. I'm happy enough.
They got a silver medal, like I expected actually. But the disappointment is still there, considering that the colour changed (including the colour of their uniform -_-).
I think the bright yellow uniform was a morale booster for many of us last time. Uniform changed back to blue, the medal changed along. I'm not blaming on the uniform la. -_-
Anyway, I looked back and thought about the three consecutive golds that Hai Sing got since 2001, of which I've been through two of them. It's like, gone already..albeit the disappointment was there, never mind la.
I'm rather result oriented when it comes to this kind of thing it seems. Though I hate to admit it. =P
The kids can't even tell me how they felt when they were onstage, whether they felt happy or not. =\ Hope they will never ever forget.
Most importantly, I'm proud of the kids. =)
April 12!
Today's the day!
Hai Sing's SYF is going to take place soon in less than 14 hours.
I am freaking worried. I dunno why. They will do their best! They can!!!
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I damn jin zhang. Damn jin zhang. And now I dunno if Felix is going to take Ping Yi for the competition.
Everything is so worrying!!
OK, back to work.
SYF 2007
The biannual SYF is back again.
So anxious and excited for my juniors!
Sigh. Judging from today's results, it seems like the adjudicators are strict this year. If the bands keep up their standards.
You can view the updated results from here.
This is post no. 600.
Project
This is what I've been busy with during the weekends, to build an icosahedron - the last project of SP1201. Finally completed it last night, spent donkey hours on it. Goodness I had my sister for ideas and help and my mum too.
On the left is the solid, on the right is its skeleton. Built using straws and red cardboard paper.
Noah's Ark
Noah's Ark by Bert Appermont. MJCSB played this piece at a competition organised by World Music Projects (a wing of Band World) and was held in Genting in December 2005. Hearing this piece reminds me of those days again.
But anyway, here's a video done for that piece.
Seems like Noah didn't rescue the lions, I didn't see them anywhere.
A visit to my juniors
I went to Ngee Ann Sec today as Hai Sing was having band practice there. Woke up at 7 plus this morning because my dad called and he was in the area so asked me if I wanna go back. OK lo, will save a lot of time and after that we went to Tampines N2 for breakfast with mum. And I saw this cat sleeping comfortably.
I'm quite worried because of the lack of support from Hai Sing's new principal, and on top of that, his management is really poor. Shall not talk about it, don't wanna blow up now. Bleh.
And there was sectionals for the main band, and we alumni (a lot of us went back! =D) helped our juniors and such. In addition to that I played a bit. Heh.
With Tsz Shan. That's Wei Xiong's tie that I was wearing and it had a lion figure print on it
Go, prepare to stop, or stop?
Cedric, me, Daniel
We didn't realise that the colour combination of our tops had some meaning until Daphne told us. Haha.
Saw this on the news
Tuned in to NUScast just now to Channel 5 for the news. Then saw this pair of very cute otters in Canada. Damn sweet la.
ARGH!
MY WORK IS ALL F-ed UP! T_T
ARGH!!!!! I DON'T WANNA DO THAT BLOODY PROJECT ANYMORE!!!
~~~~~

What happened actually was, I thought I needed to construct a soccer ball made up of any domestic materials. However I only need to do something much simpler. Realised this only after making 20 hexagons.

Damn.

Wasted 6 hours of time on this public holiday.

Is this the way to treat me, whoever's controlling my life? I bet you're entertained.

So I'm going to bring the materials back home tomorrow morning and do it at home.

Feelings

I feel, I feel.
I feel like watching Phantom of the Opera again!
WHAHAHA.
Miss the show badly.
~~~~~
Anyway, I am finally able to wake up on time for lessons. You know why? I changed my alarm ringtone. Whahaha.
Instead of the default tone that used to be able to wake me up, I changed to Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra's Down Beat Stomp. A very fun and energetic song. So when the alarm rang I hear all the shouting and beating and music I can wake up already -_-
Post-Phantom
FYI: This post is not really a spoiler in my opinion since most people should know the storyline, considering the fact that Phantom has been around for quite some time. Should you not know the story, I'm not revealing anything of it, just some rather superficial comments on my thoughts post-musical.
I don't know what to say, seriously. Haha. OK, main point is, I sort of cried twice. Whahahaha. I cry quite easily while watching movies etc, so...ya. I may be exaggerating. Haha.
The first time I teared was because I was overwhelmed by the fact that I was watching the musical finally. It was like, I was in the theatre, the stage was gorgeously vintage-ly furnished, and during the first act I cannot help it already, when Christine and Meg (if I didn't get her name wrong) started to sing. It is quite the 'I made it here' kind of feeling. The second time I cried -_-. Haha. As in, tears really flowed. Towards the end it was so sad, I couldn't help it. Didn't want the tears to fall so I tried really hard not to blink but I guess my eye cavities were not big enough to hold them anymore and they fell~ Haha. After that I pretended I was just giving my face a rough wipe, like just scratching or whatsoever. Don't wanna let my brother see me cry whahahaha. So paiseh. I went with him and his colleagues by the way.
I think my favourite roles were that of the Phantom and Madame Giry. The latter has a very cute role, somewhat Nanny-McPhee-like. But I'm not going to say anymore in case this post becomes a spoiler.
For those who are going to the musical, don't expect too much I guess. I wasn't exactly touched by most of the singers except for the Phantom, the actor is Brad Little if I got his name right. Seems like people with surnames to do with 'small' aren't that small after all. Think Melinda Doolittle on American Idol 6 and Stuart Little the talking mouse. Digression. Back to what I was saying, I think the guy who played Raoul should have a charm and a strong voice not only to swoon Christine but attract the rest of the ladies as well. However this wasn't the case. Raoul's voice was relatively weak and lacking of a certain power that he should have, especially the parts where he had to project but I didn't feel that his sincerity reached me. His part in All I Ask Of You was fine la, and those parts where he had to sing with others, people easily covered his vocals. Christine was quite a disappointment too. Though she had the technicalities, she hit the high notes and her singing flowed, but she couldn't project her voice. Not as zai as Sarah Brightman. I think I'm comparing them with the original cast which isn't really right, I just had this tiny little hope that they may keep up the standard.
However I was particularly impressed with Phantom! My, his singing reaches you, (probably that's why I cried) and his acting skills are superb. I felt the Phantom's agony and his need for love, which he worked so hard to fight for. His singing is resounding, thunderous, emotional, etc etc etc. Like when he shouted I jumped a bit in my seat. I am really impressed.
You all should go watch, as long as you're not sitting too much to the side. I THINK, I THINK, you don't trust this, but I THINK if you can see the stage, sitting anywhere isn't a problem. So don't refrain from going for this musical just because you can't spare extra cash for good seats okay. I think it's worth a go, the last time they came here was 13 donkey years ago. My brother waited for 13 years, we couldn't afford it because at that time he was only in secondary school and my family wasn't very well-off. Lots of financial problems, but my brother went to get the cassette of the Original Cast and we're still keeping it. Whether it can still play or not, I'm not sure. Haha. I don't know how long I waited, probably since secondary school too, when I learnt more about this kind of cultural and artsy stuff. Probably that's why I was so excited and overwhelmed -_-
Thanks to my brother who paid for my ticket (muahaha) and it costs a bomb, considering he got two of the tickets which means he spent nearly $300. And plus all the souvenirs we bought...hahaha. He bought the programme booklet $25, mug ~$12 I can't remember the price, Original Cast CDs $33, and he paid for the mask necklace I wanted, $20. I think $20 for that is a good buy, though we all know it's all touristsy money. Haha I'm going to pay him the $20 of course.
OK la, I think you all better go get the tickets now. Hahaha.
Pre-Phantom
I was very excited the entire day I couldn't really concentrate on what I was supposed to do. Whahaha. 'Cos I've been waiting for Phantom of the Opera to come to Singapore and here they are!
Phantom, here I come!
(This is in fact a bit of an overdue blogging.)
Spooked
My dad told me that the past week when I was not at home an accident happened in the block opposite my room. A maid fell off the building, I don't know if it's an accident or a suicide. And the view from my room to the site where it happened is perfect T_T
Spooky!
Anyway I went to Comfort Driving Centre to open an account today, so I'll take my Basic Theory Test on the afternoon of June 13. Yeay. A first step to driving.
I hope I won't flunk it though. Choy! 'Cos if someone I know can fail BTT, things must really be hard to predict.
Saya sangat sedih
Can someone get me those huge clocks with ultra loud alarms?
I'm supposed to have a lecture now...but...I overslept. I overslept yesterday, I overslept today, what else?
T_T
Hey I reallly want to wake up on time and go for lessons. I don't know what is wrong with me since JC, higher tendency to oversleep.
Grrr.
I think I should find those loud alarm clocks. I already have two alarms - my cellphone and a cheapo clock. I don't know if they wake me up at all. 'Cos I don't remember if I switched the alarm off or the clocks gave up on waking me.
T_T
I don't wanna be like this.
Thursday, March 29, 2007
Hmmph.
I really should leave blogs alone and study reeeaaaalllll hard.
Currently brainstorming for an essay that I've got to submit by this weekend. My topic is something about the intersection between science and the arts. It's pretty agonising because the module Freshman Seminar is an S/U module, so you know, when you don't have time, just don't put too much time and effort. However this essay I've got to write conscientiously because our essays will be sent to The Straits Times editor-in-chief to choose one of our essays to publish. My point is not to get my essay published, my point is not to tarnish NUS' image to too large an extent. You know, when your work is as if it is NUS' work.
The deadline is the midnight of this Sunday. But I'm not sure if midnight of Sundays mean the 12 a.m. between Saturday and Sunday or the midnight between Sunday and Monday. The submission folder is still kept open after the midnight between Sat and Sun of our previous assignment. And then I realise, the folder never closes -_- So it is hard for me to determine the deadline. I shouldn't do last minute work, but I have been doing last minute work. Thus deadlines are as important as snoozes are to me.
But snoozes have been failing me (I have two clocks waking me up to no avail recently). I overslept for a tutorial today, so I have to go for another tutorial tomorrow. If I woke up on time, I'd be able to end lessons at 10 a.m instead of 1 p.m. =C
So I got my punishment.
Anyway, I went to check - while I was distracted from studies, like 99% of the time - the temperatures and currency of Italy. In mid-year while we'll be in Italy, it'll be their summer time if I'm not wrong, the temperature is at about 26 deg C, which is the hottest all year round. So it'll be relatively cooling la. Good enough. I don't want it to be too hot. I'm unsure about the currency, dunno if it's Euros or the Italian Lira.
1.00 ITL = 0.001045 SGD and 1.00 EUR = 2.023057 SGD. If things are in Lira there then calculations will be rather complicated. For Euros we just have to times 2 to get the approximate price in SGD.
OK la, that's all.
Best Memories
Ah, feels so great to enjoy being in a band all over again.
Heh.
I miss alighting at CFA!
Sunday, March 25, 2007
I hope!
Ah, distracted from work again. Sigh. Concentrate, concentrate, concentrate. Tampines is freaking stuffy.
Oh, going Italy in a few months' time. Quite excited about the events and people there. Homestay! Hope I get a really sweet and warm family. Hur hur. 想得太早。
And I hope *fingers crossed* that I'll get window seats!! Then I'll just snap and snap and snap lovely pictures of the beautiful sky.
Oh so nice.
How sad
The Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Concert Bands (Secondary) is coming in less than a month. Hai Sing's turn is on Thursday, they're the fifth band in the afternoon. Usually ever since I've graduated, I'll make a trip down to catch their performance without fail.
This time, I won't be able to make it I think.
Why?
Because I have lessons that I can't skip T_T
From 12 to 2 p.m. I have PC1327 test, and after that till 3 I have MA1101R lab quiz. What the hell.
I wanna go see them perform T_T
It's always because of work that I miss performances that I wanna watch. Last month I wanted to go for a tuba recital at YST and right on that slot, I have mid-term tests.
So pissed. Hmmph.
If only!
If only I could tongue this fast!
I have a fat and retarded tongue. =C
My closest primary school pal
I went to Aaron's graduation recital today. And return the worn-out mute along the way. I'm so sorry there were extra dents and scratches on the mute. -_-
Anyway, Aaron played four pieces, of which two had piano accompaniment. The pianist played her part like it was damn easy. She looked so comfortable.
And now for Aaron. Piangs. After three years he's damn pro now la. -_- kns. Whahahaa. I'm jealous!
I almost wanted to go to NAFA after secondary school, had not for financial issues. =( But it is amazing to think if I'd be at least half as good as Aaron if I spent three years there. And I'm not sure what I'd do after graduation anyway.
Aaron's skills got standard already lo. Haha. His slurs flowed very nicely, and what impressed me most is his performance of Fnugg. AAAhhh. And I take back the ear sore comment, because listening to it live is really wah-wah-woo-weet. Haha. All the multiphonics, 'beatboxing', etc. Very nice! He said he missed quite a few notes, but I didn't realise. =\ And I'm super envious! They had a lesson with Oystein Baadsvik before!!! They as in the NAFA tuba guys. So good. So that's how they got the score for Fnugg. For Baadsvik's performance of Fnugg do scroll down and start the youtube player.
I also want those lessons =\
And after that Mr Yeo sent me to the west so that I can take 151 back to school. Yeay. But after that Aaron called me when I was waiting for the bus. 'Eh you gone already ah?' He thought that we could have a drink after donkey years. But. Lessons at 6 p.m. later on. So I hopped into Mr Yeo's car and back to school.
I find that I haven't been keeping in touch with Aaron and Mr Yeo, because when I went to their tiny practice studio in the school, he asked, 'So how are you? And your alto saxophone boyfriend?' -_____- It's been over for so long already. So that's actually how long I haven't chatted with them. Ha. I think the last time was the Canadian Brass concert two years back. And because of that question Yin Xuan joked that Mr Yeo was interested in me, and the latter said that he's more interested in 我拜他为师。 -_- But I got no money and don't really have the time to go for lessons considering my schedule now. And quite scared also. See la, so wasted.
Shall stop blogging already, because I have a lot of work to catch up on. Exams are so freaking near. So so near.
InTempo 2007 - The Aftermath
I'm more light-hearted after the concert, since the pressure is more or less gone.
Heh.
I don't know how to describe my feelings now.
InTempo was great, one of the best concerts that I've ever performed in all my 7 years in band. Probably because it was the technical difficulty of the pieces that I felt I achieved something bigger than before. A hefty sense of satisfaction, I must say. Though I played a lot of wrong notes - at least ten per piece - I still felt....undescribable. Haha. 爽呆了。Some pieces really made us go high, but of course since the repertoire was filled with great pieces.
Kudos to Mr Leonard Tan, our conductor, for his very good skills in guiding us. His choice of repertoire, his expressions, etc. First time that I had a conductor who danced on the podium. =\
My NUSWS tuba section, Hui Shan, Derek, Daniel, Yong Kiat and Wei Ping and the alumni Si Seng. You people made my time at NUSWS a surprisingly enjoyable one. I really enjoyed myself, like I could just fit in so easily. Must be me actually. Ahhh kidding kidding.
Hui Shan, thank you that I have you because I'd be sticking to Daniel and XH may get jealous. Whahaha. No la, thank you that I have you to stick around with. Heh. For the company, the extra information , the laughters, joys and the genuine laughter at my not-funny-at-all crap. For the 爱心牛奶,爱心药,and 爱心honey stars + marshmallows. Be there next semester hor.
Derek, what a crap of an SL you are. I'm sure Daniel will be a damn good SL =P Whahaha, no laaaaa. You're a totally different kind of SL that I didn't think I'd ever meet. You don't seem serious but in fact you are; you gave me the I-heck-care impression but you actually fulfilled your responsibilities. And come on time for band! Quit puffing! You may/may not be missed when you're in percussion next semester.
Dear Daniel, you're gonna be the principle player! Means my SL for the second time! Like I predicted =P. This is going to bring back Hai Sing memories again. But no, I'm not going to call you Kang-kor-kor, which is damn gross at this age. OK, to celebrate your new position do give me a treat. And of course, thanks to your presence in NUSWS that I needn't worry about feeling lonely at first. And it is also through you that I got to know many people in NUSWS, thank you!
Yong Kiat, stop MIA-ing! You're not going to come back next sem? Serious? You gotta come back! And yes, thank you for all your lame shit to bring some 'humour' into the section. -_- Eh, do come back next sem!
Wei Ping, good thing that your arms are long enough to put the mute for Poema yourself, if not I wouldn't have time to put in both mutes at the same time. Haha. And talking to me when Hui Shan wasn't around! It was nice knowing you! And are you going to stay on next semester! Come back come back!
Si Seng, thanks to Yong Kiat and you for playing the first few bars of Poema so at least there were tubas at that part!
It was damn great to meet all of you, it made my life in NUS even more colourful.
I think I'd feel like I'm in a totally new section if people who were in my section for InTempo 2007 will be gone next semester. =C
And the many many people that I got to know, too many to be named. I love you all =)
There were a lot of good feedback regarding Soaring Over the Ridges, the 1st Alps piece we played. Heh. I guess when it got to Poema, we were already too tired. On the whole I heard the concert was actually quite good, there were also compliments from non-band people. Thank you all very much.
Thanks to Dad, Mum, Bro, Ai Lin, Jesse, Yi Xin, Sock Leng, Jie Ying, Daphne, Jun Wen, Cedric, Amy, Zhi Long, Adeline, Felix, Hong Wei, Juli and her friend, Yin Xuan, Shu Ling, James and his wife, Li Hong, Kai Ling, Jonathan and all others for coming to the concert! And to those who didn't come, you missed out on a damn good concert la. Haha.
Anyway, I'm happy in NUSWS. Really. There were minor hiccups of course, but mostly, my time there was really fun. Band camp was a plus, that's how I got to know most of my friends there. Time flies, I only knew you people for almost three months, but it seemed like I've performed with you people many many times. It was because of you people that made me feel unafraid to play, I felt comfortable. I like going for band practices even though there were much opportunity cost to calculate. =P
Oh and my parents didn't doze off during the concert.
Ya and the photos that you all want, can get it from here.
I need to get a pair of comfortable black shoes for performances. The pair I wore was disgustingly uncomfortable, distracting me for the entire concert. =(
Thanks to anyone and everyone who made this wonderful concert possible, a concert that I cannot get enough of, a concert that made me keep looking back, a concert that made me want to enjoy all over again.
Nice
Firstly introducing the beat-box tuba that I procrastinated to go about blogging.
I thought that it was quite an ear sore at the beginning, but more to the middle it became enjoyable.
And next this clip from Hui Shan who got it from Daryl. I think it's damn nice. It's rare that I'll like Chinese instrumental music.
I played on my brother's erhu before. I played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and hey, I sounded good for a starter, but it was still as horrible =\
Ouch to the infinity
It felt like I was experiencing a break-up all over again. No, really, it really hurts.
This...this is something with the lack of practice.
But hey, we practised.
You may not know it, but (probably) even passionate tuba players feel deprived sometimes. What are we deprived of? Beautiful melodies.
And at NUSWS, we have a few, but one was prominent. The soli with lower woodwinds and double basses at the beginning of The Merry Wives of Windsor.
It's not that I'm sick of being backup, I know that tubas really do matter. But it is simply because we don't get to play melodies almost ALL the time that's why we treasured this so much. It was like the only time that tubas can rise up above and play like stars. Alas, we didn't play like we were required to, and we were stripped of our precious chance.
What really happened? Perhaps we should've practised even more to master that part. It was just a matter of more than three bars. We didn't perfect it at all, though we practised and practised and practised. The slur from G to Eb didn't work for us, and in addition my G to Bb sounded garbage-y.
So the conductor took that part away from us.
There's a sense of disappointment that I don't know how to describe to you. The shudder that I got when I realised what Mr Tan was talking about when he said tubas come in from bar 6 onwards, I counted and counted then realised he was ordering us to start playing after the soli. Meaning, to hell with tubas opening for InTempo 2007.
We were in no position to get that few bars back from us, since we couldn't promise that we could perfect it by Sunday. No way. But it was an extreme discouragement. The time that we spent to practise it...whose fault is it? All of our fault! The disappointment is there, I felt it. That shudder that I told you about. It was like going through a break-up when the person you were so mad about left you. Though I may smile and smile and smile, I could still feel the pain inside.
That few bars mattered so, so much.
Sick
...again!
It seems like my immunity level is really low.
Wasn't as bad last time though.
Ever since I got into uni I get sick like almost all the time. After SOW, I got a slight sore throat, before the exams I had a slight flu plus skin problem, fell sick during NUSWS band camp in December, and I'm sick now!
And all three times I went for supposedly-to-be free medical consultation and medicine at UHWC. So I happily went there this morning thinking that I need not pay. However yes I needed to, S$7.70 at that. =C
So freaking broke.
I felt really sick yesterday, so after sectionals I went back hall, bathed, and slept. It's been eons since I slept at 11 pm plus, I can't remember the last time I slept at this timing. And other than my mum calling and AL knocking on the door, I slept all the way through to this morning till 8 plus. And I skipped a tutorial because I didn't do =P But the feeling when I woke up was, woahhhhh. And I got the sleep I need and so I don't feel sleepy at all tonight.
Heh.
