Further explanations
On Tuesday, Indonesia's State Minister for Science and Technology Kusmayanto Kadiman had admitted that no alerts were issued despite bulletins from the two monitors. He had said that they did not want to send out a false alarm as the information was still preliminary.
But yesterday, he told reporters that the national meteorology and geophysics agency (BMG) had, in fact, sent out 400 SMS messages to regional officials.
However, he did not say how soon the messages were sent out after the information was received from Japan and Hawaii.
The head of BMG's earthquake department, Mr Suhardjono, told The Straits Times that the agency is now looking at how the alleged slip-up happened.
He acknowledged that while there is a plan to relay warnings automatically through SMS or e-mail to local officials, the onward information flow to residents in coastal areas has not been established yet.

Now great, we have the BMG which sent out alerts to officials but how many residents know about it?
There are hotels in Pangandaran and I assume that the hotels have enough technology (like radios and TV sets) to inform the people about the incoming tsunami. Then what happened? Nothing had seemed to be done.
There was another earthquake again, yesterday with a magnitude of 6.2.
And I just found out from a website that the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre which is in Hawaii was slow to confirm the magnitude of the quake and there was a team of inexperienced people on duty when the fatal incident happened.
It's not that I'm trying to say that I'd do things perfectly, I am angry at why things are soooooo bloody cocked up.
It's like, two centres informed you about the tsunami and it's not as if they planned to play a prank and decided to warn you at the same time right? How would you know things were a false alarm when you have not even sounded the alarm???
WAH!
Pissed.

Innocent children laughing, unable to understand completely what they're going through
No he's not dead, he's taking a nap in the ruins of his home
Looking for familiar faces through the pictures of the victims
Boats were washed in
Bodies were found in many ways
The pain of losing the ones they love
A funeral, better than mass burial
Rushing inland to escape the disaster
Everywhere is in a state of mess
Survivors seeking refuge in a mosque
What's left of Pangandaran beach
Soldiers had to look for bodies
These little kids are homeless...
Pangandaran after the tsunami, with the waves splashing to the shore as usual
