They're lying!

Maybe I'll take back my words after experiencing more of university life, but now, I wanna say that if someone tells you that university life is the best out of your schooling life, they're lying!!! But well some year 4 seniors in hall find that A levels was more stressful. But I don't remember being so scared before an exam! I'm bloody unprepared. I keep shaking and could feel the strain on myself. Sigh. I tried to take a nap but it's like I can't stop worrying. It got even more uncomfortable when I lie down on my bed. I've never experienced such a fear for exams before.

For one thing I know I'm not going to do well, others are too far ahead of me. And I haven't completed revision for ANYTHING AT ALL.

Die la. Sigh. What a way to start my uni grades.

I'm sick!

As in, I'm really sick. Caught a flu on the day after I went to see the doctor about my skin. Or was it on that day. Man I lost count of days.

So have been sneezing away, fluid has been running like a loose tap from my nose. Beware of the flood. No la not that bad.

The past mugging week I've been trying to study at different places. With my neighbour Amy.

I tried the Central Library till daybreak. And tried the Central Library again till about 3 am. It began to rain everyday at this area, so we decided to travel less. And Adrian, a year 4 senior, introduced us to study at the rooftop. Other than being wet, it was quite a nice place. Will post photos of the environment after the exams. And Rubin another year 4 who lives beside Adrian showed us an area in Business School where you can study. Quite a maze to that place. And it's quite near the Biz canteen so we had lunch with Rubin, Adrian and Adeline who lives beside me on Wednesday. Quite a lot to hear from the two seniors. So we studied there on Thursday. It was quite a good place except that people discuss - no - chat there. Chat. Damm noisy and irritating with the chatter. And to think that I tolerated that. Perhaps cos I don't really know Biz well, so I didn't go around shhh-ing people. I'm freshman only lehh. And after we got back from that area in Biz 2 when the area had to be locked up Amy and I studied at the lounge here. Quite good too. I survived all the places, but my speed is still damm slow I won't be able to complete my revision.

And my skin is just a bit better.

Bless me. This is my first semester exam. Sigh.

Flu flu fly away.

Skin problems

It's in my genes to have sensitive skin. Throughout my life many a times I've been to the doctor regarding my skin. Like erm...infections..those kind with pus are the mode. Haha. But this time at first I thought it was just some rash so I didn't bother. Then today I realised there were about 5-6 reddish rings on my right thigh. Just below my ass. Sorry if you didn't want to know that. But don't start imagining.

Anyway, I kind of wondered what it was then went to find out on the Internet and decided I should go see a doc, since I don't know the cause of it and exams are coming so I don't want it to hinder my mood. So I trotted to Yusof Ishak House (YIH) for free medical consultation plus medicine. Yeay. The good things about being a university student.

Then the doctor (thank the guy up there she's female) said that must be some insect bite, will itch, etc. But it doesn't itch. Then she huh-ed and told me to let her take a closer look.

So we were like this.

Quite obscene I was sooo afraid that I couldn't help and fart in her face. I think she'll just give me a killer medicine then. Haha.

So after much examination, she said it was due to fungal growth. Imagine mushrooms growing on your skin. Haha. She said must be because I sat for too long. I can't doubt this, the past days when I've been at the Central Library trying to mug I continued sitting on my chair though it began to feel hot.

Doc says that if the growths don't go within ten days, I'll have to go back and see her. Her name is Joan Tjia. I have to remember this in case. In case. But please please go away! I have to sit still for more days to come!

She added that the growth will stain my skin for about two months. As long as the angry redness go away it's healed. So red red go away. And don't come ever again.

The resource on the Internet said that it's quite common, and about 10 to 25% of people get it at least once in their lives. So it's not some rare condition la.

And I did not have to pay a single cent for that cream! =)

AND. Hope I get well soon =D

Woah.

After all the Sims video I've watched I think this is the best!!! I almost cried! Do watch it ok, and listen to the lyrics too.

"When You Come Home"

My first day of recess
They all laughed at me
When I fell off the swing set
And scraped up my knee

The nurse called my Momma
To say I'd be late,
And when she gave me the phone
I could hear Momma say
"I'm so sorry, son.
Oh I think you're' so brave"

And she was smilin when she said:

When you come home,
No matter how far,
Run through the door
And into my arms
It's where you are loved,
It's where you belong
And I will be here
When you come home

I waved good-bye through the window
As I boarded the plane,
My first job in Houston
Was waiting for me

I found a letter from Momma
Tucked in my coat
And as I flew down the runway
I smiled when she wrote:
I'll miss you, son,
You'll be so far away

But I'll be waiting for the day

When you come home
No matter how far,
Run through the door
And into my arms
It's where you are loved,
It's where you belong,
And I will be here
When you come home

Well, I don't think
She can hear you now,
The doctor told me
Your mother is fading,
It's best that you leave

So I whispered,
I love you
And then turned away.
But I stopped at the door
When I heard Momma say,
I love you, son,
But they're callin me away

Promise me before I go

When you come home,
No matter how far,
Run through the door
And into my arms;
It's where you are loved,
It's where you belong,
And I will be here
When you come home,
When you come home.

I don't wanna study

Argh!!! T_T

Sigh. Studying modules that you don't like can make you waste your time away.

What Nation-building in Singapore??? Grrrr.

I soooooooooooooo really really wanna play The Sims 2.

Open Season Wallpaper

Kind of stumbled onto a site about the new IMAX movie Open Season. Then you can decorate your own wallpaper over there. So I played for fun and then realised that my work is so boring. Haha. Like quite plain. But nevertheless, vote for me! Haha. This is not political ok. Not some election or something. I don't know what I can win, but surely something related to the movie. Didn't go find out. Haha.

Just go and vote la. Won't take up the whole of your time. Thanks! =D

An interesting video

With relevance to the WSM issue.

But why did they use Josh Groban's song for WSM's introduction? Pissed. =\

The video's quite cool. Makes me wanna play The Sims also!!! T_T I miss that game.

Exams

Other than tests, I always seem to not have enough time to study for exams. No time to complete revision. This has always been the fact since JC for every examinations. Quite a loser ain't I?

This is the period when everyone wants to solely study and not do much else. However this quite unlucky guy from Block A had his laptop stolen two nights ago. He didn't lock his door. At this period of time, it's the last thing anyone would want to happen. But the guy is quite poor thing though. Sigh.

My Resident Fellow sent us an email and told us that when he first came to Block E last year, there was a theft case in level 2. A guy lost his camera. And his girlfriend's bra and skirt. -_- So gross la.....................as in HOW the bra and skirt got stolen also. You know, you know. *shrugs*.

OK...I need to get some more sleep. Nigh...no. Good afternoon.

Happy napping.

Here I am again

Falling asleep but can't seem to fall into a deep nap. Going to be 4 a.m. soon! Woots.

Zzzz.

In Central Library studying now with Ismy and Daniel Liu. Supposed to be studying for Nation-building. But apparently can't absorb.

Was studying here yesterday too, left the library at 0715hrs Saturday morning in time to catch the first internal shuttle bus. I was very hyped up by the morning air that I've been neglecting for oh so long.

And for the rest of the day I didn't sleep a lot. Like 9am to noon, then half an hour later to 2p.m.

So I'm quite out-of-range now.

Wah. Spastically stressed.

What the...

So they increase the GST to invest in this kind of thing. Well you can't possibly assume that no fraction of GST is funding for this.

Government to grow dating industry through $600,000 fund
By Pearl Forss, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 17 November 2006 1132 hrs

SINGAPORE: The government is hoping to grow a vibrant private sector dating industry. The Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports has started a $600,000 fund which will see the private industry replacing national matchmaking agencies - the Social Development Unit (or SDU) and Social Development Service (or SDS).

In a population of 4.5 million, there are 620,000 singles in Singapore.

A recent survey commissioned by SDU, which involved over 1000 singles aged between 25 and 44 years old, shows these singles spent $374m this year on activities like clubbing, and travelling.

They are also happy to splurge on dating opportunities, spending $29m, of which $11m went to wining and dining their dates, $3m to traditional matchmaking, another $3m to computer matchmaking and close to $2m on speed dating.

$2.3m was spent on putting personal ads in publications.

Other results from the survey - 90 percent of the single respondents stated that they would certainly get married one day, and 72 percent of all singles would like to have more opportunities to meet new friends of the opposite gender.

The key point is the dating industry is a lucrative one and the government wants to help businesses tap on this growing market. It has set aside $600,000 under a Partner Connection Fund. Interested parties can apply for grants of up to $50,000 for their matchmaking business.

In dispersing the funds, MCYS is looking for dating businesses which involve only local resident singles. They must also have sound business plans, creative ideas and show results.

Up to 80 percent of business costs can be funded and the aim is to grow a dating industry that is comparable to those found in Japan and UK for example.

"We do have consumer complaints that the money they paid for is not worth the value and it hadn't materialise in any match, and some of the events and programmes were really not well carried out. Because of all these feedback and also the need to look at the industry as a whole, we felt a registry had to be put in place, eventually, to harmonise some of the standards," said Claire Chiang, Co-Chair, Partner Connection Fund Evaluation, Community Development, Youth and Sports Ministry.

The SDU will put in place an accreditation framework for the dating industry by the middle of next year.

Two national registries will be set up by SDU - a Registry of Dating Practitioners, and a Registry of Dating Agencies. The Registry of Dating Practitioners will provide the agencies with a ready pool of accredited and trained professionals, and allow singles to check on the status of the dating practitioners who are attending to them. The Registry of Dating Agencies will carry the list of accredited agencies.

Accredited agencies must introduce "genuine" singles and ensure that their members' database is kept confidential.

These are two major problems currently cited by singles who used some commercial matchmaking agencies.

In addition, dating practitioners can apply for professional training and competency certification, which will be offered under the Workforce Development Agency's Workforce Skills Qualifications framework.

Accredited agencies will benefit by being featured in SDU's publicity efforts to promote the local dating industry, and by being highlighted in the Registry of Dating Agencies.

As the private sector dating industry grows, SDU and SDS will ease out of providing direct dating services.

"SDU specifically will be doing more of forging partnerships with the private sector. We want to share our domain expertise with the industry as an accreditation body. We will also look at some of the measures that have been outlined," said Anna Goh-Boon, Deputy Director of Social Development Unit.

SDS will, instead, work at the grassroots level to strengthen family life, through its 84 family life champions who are volunteers at various Residents' Committees. - CNA

WHY?? Why am I being registered to the SDU after I graduate? Haha. Who knows. Maybe I'll need it. And splurge on dating opportunities.

Right.

Transformation Pack for Windows Vista!

Blow up the picture!

The Recycle Bin icon looks more sleek

Daniel Kang just told me about downloading the transformation pack for Windows XP to make your interface look like Vista! Haha.

Quite a bit of getting used to because it's a bit too see-through so when you're typing away on your Live Messenger window you can actually see what's behind.

Like this

And because Vista is for Windows programs only, my FireFox browser doesn't have the glassy kind of view. But it's OK, makes blogging easier to go through anyway.

But how close is this to the real Windows Vista, I'm not sure. The transformation package only changes the face of your system but not the features la. Haha.

I quite like the new look. It's refreshing!

FYI

In case you people wanna ask me out or know what I've been doing, here is my examinations schedule.

27 Nov CZ1102 Problem Solving and Computation (aka Programming)
28 Nov MA1100 Basics of Mathematics
29 Nov SSA2204 Nation-building in Singapore
30 Nov MA1102R Calculus
05 Dec LSM1301 General Biology

All are afternoon papers except for MA1102R which is in the evening.

Yep. That's about it.

Collar pin

I just got my HSCCB collar pin.

Not exactly a pretty one, but well it looks not bad la.

And if you notice it properly there's a quaver there actually. Kind of corny to look like this but it's not that bad though. Haha.

Where is the love?

Really, where the hell did love go?

Saw this article about a kidnap in an Iraq education ministry office.

Sounds small? Hello, a kidnap of more than 100 people.

Do you think all of them will live?

Man, I hate this world.

A new OS

If you'd read the ST Digital Life section today, you'll know of a new operating system - Windows Vista. It's after all the Windows 98, 2000, XP...you get Vista. And I think it's really pretty. Prettier than the Mac-OS.

Things are more glass-like here, it's like you can see-through some parts of the window. And if you have a couple of windows opened up, you can slant the windows to an angle to navigate them. 3-dimensional. Isn't it cool? I like the way it looks.

Features wise, you can manage your media better this time! There are more functions to help you store your photos neatly and a better enabled search engine that you can dig up photos in folders 'far far away'. Haha.

You ought to learn about this.

Coming soon!

And can someone tell me to stop blogging? Sigh.

The problem of so-called elites

Many of you should have heard about Wee Shu-min's comment in response to the post by Derek Wee. Found a good source here.

It's about elitism in Singapore, and WSM is a very bright girl from RJC. Read the post to know more about her. If you want, of course. She's f*cking hell self-addicted I can see.

Loathe people like this.

Maybe because I'm not an elite or anything, I don't need to be one. Because I am satisfied with my very very normal life.

Is this how all the elites think in Singapore?

Oh, her dad should be one of the PAP people I think. Tsk tsk tsk.

New link

If you all didn't notice I just linked Patricia Mok's blog here. Haha. Her blog can be quite interesting to one and all, except for the guys when she talks about shopping and makeup and manicure. But she talks about good food too, so it's worth a looking at. And she's quite funny.
