Fooooooood. Part two.

And so I did.

I cooked today. Muahaha. Made me so happy.

I cooked meatballs, recipe from PW. I chose hers today (and not Jamie Oliver or Kayotic etc.) because I don't have those spices that other recipes require. The nearest supermarket is poorly stocked when it comes to spices like basil and rosemary, so I decided to do away with those and work on a recipe that didn't require any.

I think I'll like the recipes with more spices better. Anyway, here goes!

Finely chop the onion.

I chop until damn swee right. WHAHA.

Airpork.

I really wanted to dig the white parts out but stopped myself because that would be never ending. I just hope that the chopping board and mincer and whatever else they used to make this portion of $2.80 ground pork possible is clean.

The pork was on special offer. My mum said it could be because of swine flu so people don't wanna eat. =S Oh no.

Oh and this recipe calls for beef but I can't cook beef at home, so I subsituted that with pork.

Anyway, in went the oats. This recipe uses oats instead of breadcrumbs/crackers.

Got milk also.

Onion.

Salt.

The black pepper. One of my good friends in the kitchen.

Done with all the ingredients! Now is to mix them all together.

Ah!

Before that, make sure you wash your hands. Swine flu you know. Hahhahaahhaa.

The picture above makes me feel kinda sad because my hand is so fat =(

Okay I know it must be the angle. *self consolation*

Anyway, here's the result. Reminds me of ngoh hiang before I put the meat into the beancurd skin. But of course, of a very different aroma.

I then scooped them out by the tablespoon and rolled them into medium sized balls.

Did someone say balls?

I know these meat 'balls' aren't the roundest things on Earth, thank you very much.

Into the freezer for five minutes.

Then take them out and dredge them in flower. I mean flour.

Ta-daa.

Oil into the saucepan.

Ah, I later figured that I put too many for one batch.

There are 13 balls altogether by the way. How lucky.

Ok I know I don't have the nicest meatballs here but we're gonna eat them, so heck!

HAHA.

And here's them with the sauce poured over. The sauce is made up of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, onion, ....and I can't remember already.

And the baking dishes at home are either too big or too small. I settled with too big.

Afterwards I sent them into the oven for forty minutes.

The recipe said 45, but I can't really bear to see more of the sauce drying up.

Verdict: I think it's quite nice, I was quite surprised by the taste because I thought it'd be quite normal. But I know I won't make it again. Mum only ate one, she said she doesn't like the sauce. Dad ate a few, he said that it's too sweet. Bro ate a few too, he said it's not bad.I ate a lot. Shit.

Fooooooood. Part one.

When was the last time I blogged about something I cooked?

Hmmm. April 3. Nearly a month ago. About the banana cake. And that post was nearly a month late. =(

Which implies that.....I haven't been doing what I like to do =(((((

Okay la, I've been actually, here and there, and really ugly comfort food.

I was alone at home one night and had to make my own dinner.

So I had coleslaw...

...some potato bake (or do you call it gratin?)..

...and vanilla ice-cream with fudge. Yikes, how sinful. No wonder I've been gaining pounds.

One fine day I baked muffins. Again. The very same ones. This time I baked them at a lower temperature. And they took longer to cook.

Any occurrences of waves splashing down like the ones in this post?

Nearly.

That makes zero! Muahaha. And the colours are more pleasant this time.

Yesterday when walking around Cold Storage with RC, I wanted to get a muffin mix of another brand so that I could bake today, but he didn't allow me to =( because I haven't finished exams ma. But in the end I still did cook and bake la =Þ more about it in the next post.

And then I made agar-agar. Mixed them with orange juice and realised I put in too little sugar so it was quite sour. It didn't help that I had it in the orange skins, and they got kind of bitter too. I'll try for more lovely flavours!

One breakfast I decided to make some kind of roll. French toast (I put lots of spices into that egg mix) and then rolled ham and cheese inside it. YUMMY. But quite messy cos got to roll.

Okay, more food in part two!

Boohoo.

Ethan peed on my bed =(

Some pictures.

See the wet spot? T_T

Good thing my mum bought some Febreze.

I've been sleeping on this mattress for 15 years now, and apparently it's getting flatter. Or it's just me growing up and getting heavier. And then fatter.

It's just like how a cake would shrink when it's not well-baked.

Funny song.

This is hilarious.

Rain

Ahhhh. Finally it's raining.

Though not that cooling, but it's better than a hot day. And it's not very windy I can leave my windows open without the rain pouring in.

What do you call rain that comes through the window?

Looks pretty dark.

But actually I manipulated the camera to capture little light. It's pretty bright now. I can do my work without switching on the lights.

One thing I realised about myself recently is that I'm talking in short sentences. And I don't like it.

I like to go on and on.

Groggy.

There's a bump at the back of my head out of dunno where and I don't know how it looks like (because I don't have eyes on the back of my head) but it's quite a hard one.

And it's giving me a headache I'm not feeling well.

Not the first time that this happened anyway.

Grr.

Craving.

I got craving for risotto. Feed me, someone.

Oh no.

I sense a toothache coming.

Must be the wisdom tooth on the bottom right infected again.

One day when I feel like it I better extract that darned tooth.

Just that I haven't felt like it yet.

Toothache, please don't work up until next Thursday okay. I give you permission to start causing me pain and sorrow and headaches come Thursday onwards. Then I'll see the dentist.

Okay okay okay?

I take silence as consent.

Thank you!

I want to cook.

I suddenly want to cook meatballs and bake blueberry muffins and apple tart.

Exams go away =(

Be careful!

I received this SMS from a junior earlier today.

Here's how it goes, word for word:

Please inform all your friends and relatives that nowadays, there is a group of Indian people coming to houses carrying a statue of a God and will ask you to donate money to them. Do not answer or reply them and don't talk to them. They are a group that knows black magic, and are out to cheat your money. Please pass on this msg to those close ones that you care about.

~~~~~
I've heard of a similar case when I went to Bugis Street two years back, a shop assistant was telling me that she was 'hypnotised' by this group of Indian men (no racial discrimation, I'm just stating their race that's all) and while she was unconscious, they took the money in her pouch and fled. She was telling me how she lost control of herself and didn't know what was happening. When she finally regained consciousness she started crying and was kind of spooked by the whole thing. She didn't look like she was lying, I don't know.
So I share this message on my blog, because I care for you readers =D
Awww.
I'm sorry I couldn't help in anything at all.
I'm sorry for I might be the cause.
I'm sorry that I'm useless.
I'm sorry.
Not that I mind!
In fact I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw the email.
Phew, I don't have to reject anything now!
You might think I'm letting a chance pass by and ask me why I'm happy about not getting this job.
Well, this job can't be my career. I'm not just searching for a job, I'm scouting for a possible career. I don't want to do something that I know I can't excel in, or have zero interest for.
If you're busybody and want to know who this employer is come ask me.
The best comes out within me when I have to study
Because I get stressed and the weirdest things come out of my brain.
Damn spastic right. I think so too.
最动人的声音。
It's really nice watching this.
Go Susan Boyle!
Watch it if you haven't, you won't regret watching this!
Britain's really got Talent!
This is the high quality one, just that it doesn't show the whole thing, just the singing part.
She must be overshadowed by all the things she had to do when she was younger. It's really wasted that she didn't get enough chances, only until now.
Yikes.
This is my last academic week in university.
And that'll be the end! Of everything related to school!
Oh boy this is scary.
Time of the semester.
I wish I could be happier studying.
Giveaways.
I participated in two other giveaways on certain food blogs. Not the PW one. This time it's bakerella and Kayotic Kitchen.
I'm not dyingggggg to win the Kayotic Kitchen one, it's a cheese grater. It's not something I need in the kitchen all the time. And I have a microplane at home anyway.
But I wanna win the bakerella one.
I'm not going to tell you why =P
Edit:
Maybe I should've told you guys why. Because I didn't win. =(
The early bird catches the worm.
But some late birds still get to catch the worms, because they have a talent in some way or the other. To quote a tutor from CL1101E, 他们有一技之长。I don't have.
Some late birds are just plain lucky individuals.
Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be early and/or hardworking because out there there are people who are talented and/or lucky.
I'm neither.
Wish me luck.
Condemn! Condemn!
I really don't understand why N. Korea is doing this. Self defence?
Probably those in Japan who saw the missile got a shock of their lives.
Banana cake
with fudge frosting.
Found this recipe on Betty Crocker.
I won't say that this is a screw-up, because in the end the cake was still edible. Though no one at home really finished it since it was sweet. Usually they finish up the savoury stuff.
I baked this cake for my Dad's birthday (which was mid last month).
Haha sorry for the almost-a-month late update. Whatever.
And you all don't laugh at me lo. Hahaha. I doubt this is as entertaining as the blueberry muffins one though.
So I sifted my flour,
added the baking soda,
cinnamon,
and salt in a bowl,
and a lot of sugar into a large mixing bowl. I used brown sugar instead...healthier. Supposedly.
DIY-ed some buttermilk,
took the bananas
out to mash.
I mashed the not-so-ripe =( bananas coarsely, hoping that there'd be some texture in the cake.
Flashed out my new springform pan.
Actually I didn't really need a springform for this, because it's just a normal cake. Not like it's a cheesecake or anything like that. But I invested in it because I thought, probably next time I'll make some cheesecake. Probably. Next time. Don't know when.
Add softened butter to the dry mixture.
See the impression of my thumb on the butter? I hope that's soft enough =S
Whizz.
Then the eggs.
Vanilla.
Then whizzed some more.
Add the dry ingredients and buttermilk alternately. Dry mix - buttermilk - whizz - dry mix - buttermilk - whizz....till everything is used up.
Until you get a nice looking batter.
In goes the bananas.
Stir.
I thought looking at the cake rise above the pan is a good sign.
Maybe it isn't. It could be the cake pan being too big or small, or whatever reason there is, that caused the cake to rise then fall again =( And on top of that, there's a canyon right in the middle of the cake. I named that the Grand Banana Cakeyon.
HELLO!
HELLO!
HELLO!
HELLO!
Hello!
Hello!
Hello!
This is how it looks like out of the springform.
It's waaaayyyy uglier than the kind you buy at the neighbourhood bakeries.
Anyway, I bought some walnuts. And toasted them in the toaster.
Chop chop.
And this is what you get.
Time for the disgustingly sweet chocolate fudge.
I don't know why I'm making this cake.
I don't like chocolate.
But I just wanted to try and ignored all possible consequences. =P
Sugar and unsweetened cocoa and milk.
Oh boy that was a huge amount of sugar. I swear I didn't add as much as the recipe asked me to.
Stir stir stir.
Butter and honey.
Stir stir stir,
this is the consistency you get.
(my this is super unhealthy. No wonder I put on weight. I should just quit baking altogether, my figure is getting from bad to worse.)
Spread the fudge around the cake.
Sprinkle/drizzle/POUR the walnuts over.
Add some decorations.
Cake. Birthday cake.
Clap hands, sing song.
Blow wind blow.
See the walnuts all over the place in that general direction? This is wind dispersal.
Maybe my dad could have been a tuba player when he was younger, he's just keeping it from me.
One thing I learnt from this is that, it's not exactly a good thing to serve up freshly-baked cakes. Beware of what might happen.
As you can see from the photo above, the coarse banana bits fell to the bottom of the cake. Apparently the batter wasn't thick enough to hold it there. I don't think the cake is soft. Nor fluffy. =(
I want cake.
AHHHHHH~!
I'm back.
I want cake.
Best served cold.
Just like my jokes.
